When I approached the police department and asked who was removing them I was told "not the Police" I was given permission to pull them myself. In one weekend alone I pulled up 21 signs in Gulfport. If not me --then who should be pulling them? Code has been back for a couple of weeks and as far as I know they are being pulled by residents who don't care to advertise section 8, cheap real estate, junk cars and stucco! We have to pay extra to have our trash removed. These sign posters are not paying a dime, and they are littering our city. Some one needs to enforce the ordinance or stike it from the books and let the city become a miniature billboard for trash.Gipsynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1305560399305566559.post-35714346292941720022011-05-03T14:10:01.293-04:002011-05-03T14:10:01.293-04:00I just wanted to take a moment to clarify a few po...I just wanted to take a moment to clarify a few points:

1. All code enforcement complaints were investigated and resolved by police officers while Bruce Earling was on leave recently. I agreed to this arrangement based on the understanding that it would be temporary in nature, which it was.

2. City Manager Tom Brobeil wisely directed the police department to cut ties from code enforcement in 2005. This is when we stopped pulling up illegal signs. This decision did not coincide with the change in police chiefs that occurred in 2010.

3. Please let me reiterate that police officers can and DO report observed violations to the code enforcement office for follow up.Chief Vincenthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01301609489088689597noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1305560399305566559.post-11742839950565882052011-05-03T10:56:05.837-04:002011-05-03T10:56:05.837-04:00It does not take much imagination to see what the ...It does not take much imagination to see what the future holds, with this kind of apathy. We need proactive support. "Let's see what the future holds" is not good enough. Bruce has always done a good job with code, however he was out for three months and no one covered for him. That in my opinon is disgraceful. There was a time when the police dept was proactive enforcing the no signs posted ordinance, and they would pull up all signs--even open house signs. That was under chief Willocks. Then was then. I don't think we can be blaming this on the lack of funds. It is Apathy on the part of the ENTIRE
city, this includes the police department. There is trash and brush and leaves in the streets, alleys, and gutters all over the city. It is not limited to the"blighted" areas where criminals and informers live. NO SOLUTION? Proactive employees and citizens are what we need in Gulfport. NOT APATHY.seaurchin*noreply@blogger.com
